Gen-ichi Sawada served at Aichi Prefectural Government and Home Ministry and then as commissioner of Tottori and Iwate prefectures, secretary and commissioner of Education Ministry, private secretary to Education Minister and president of Matsuyama Higher Commercial School, Urawa Higher School and Tokyo Fine Arts School.
He retired from service at government schools and became curator and chief director of Tokyo Jogakuin (Tokyo Women's Institute) (since 1947).
He made official tours of Europe and America (1922-23).
