Genjiro Masu went to China and India (1932-1937), also to Indonesia and Formosa (1940-1942) for research of racial music. In 1953 he went to Paris with Michio Miyagi to attend the International Racial Conference, and later he became a chief director of Racial Music Society which was established in 1941. He was an author of Nihon-no-Ongaku (Music of Japan).
