1881 graduate Saint St. Petersburg Academy of Medical and Surgery.
After graduate worked at K.K. Reyyer’s Surgical Clinic, then in Surgical Department, Obukh Hospital. 1892 defended doctor’s thesis on “The Anatomy of the Caecum and the Vermiform Appendix in Relation to the Pathology of Peritiphlitis”. 1894 associate professor, from 1895 professor, of clinical surgery, Chair of Desmurgy and Mechanurgy, Military Medical Academy.
1900 reorganized this chair into Russia’s first Chair and Clinic of Orthopedics, which he directed until his death. Campaigned for regular state aid for crippled children. Sponsored foundation of Leningrad Children’s Orthopedics Institute.
Did valuable research on the orthopedic treatment of the sequelae of infantile paralysis and tuberculosis of the bones and joints. The Clinic of Orthopedics now bears his name. Honorary member, Pirogov Surgical Social, Russian Surgical Social in Moscow and a number of for sci society
Founded Leningrad Social of Orthopedic Surgeons and was elected its first chairman. Wrote some 400 sci works.
