Kent attended Blackpool Grammar School.

Career

Kent began his career as an advertising manager at John Player & Sons Ltd in 1958. Six years later he took a position of a marketing director at Imperial Manufacturing Group Inc. Then in 1969, Geoffrey was appointed an assistant managing director at the same company. Also he served as a chairman and managing director at Imperial Manufacturing Group Inc. from 1975 to 1978. In 1975, Geoffrey became a director at that company, where he worked until 1986.

In 1978, Geoffrey was appointed a chairman and chief executive at Courage Limited. Then in 1981, he held the same position at Imperial Manufacturing Group Inc. In 1986, Kent served as a deputy chairman and director at Corah PLC. In addition, he worked as a director and chairman at Mansfield Brewery Co. Ltd from 1989 to 1992.

Achievements

• Geoffrey Kent was one of the first advertising men to rise to the top of a major UK company. He joined Imperial Tobacco as advertising manager of John Player and rose to chairman and chief executive of what had become Imperial Group.
