George began work as a builder. After doing some architectural work in Sac Uity, George opened an office in Sioux City and in the following years carried on an active practice. Among his works in other cities should be mentioned the Court House at Elk Point in South Dakota, United States; First National Bank in Randolph; Hotel in Palmetto Beach; Masonic Temples at Emerson, and Marcus in Iowa, United States; High and Grade Schools at Castana in Iowa, United States and the Carnegie Library at Odebolt in Iowa, United States. In addition to his architectural practice Mr. Burkehead found time to participate actively in civic affairs. He passed away at the age of seventy, three in the house he had built for himself in Sioux City in 1913.
