Parsons devoted his career to two jobs: as a freelance writer and as a maintenance worker at General Foods Corporation in Stoneham, where he worked since 1950. He retired in 1984, and now works as a full-time writer.
Parsons also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II (1945-46).
