George F. Rengert was born on January 31, 1940, in Ohio, United States. He is a son of Ralph Rengert, a farmer, and Edna Ruth Rengert, a teacher.
In 1964, Rengert received a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio State University. In 1967, he got a Master of Arts degree from the same university. Later, George continued his education at the University of North Carolina, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1970.
Between 1970-1978, George worked at Temple University in Philadelphia, first as an instructor and later he was appointed an assistant professor of Geography. In 1978, Rengert was appointed an associate professor of Geography, a position he held until 1983, when he was promoted to the post of an associate professor of Criminal Justice. In 1991, George was appointed a professor of Criminal Justice.
Currently, he is a Professor Emeritus of Criminal Justice of Temple University.
