(THE EXTRAORDINARY INNER STRUGGLES OF A TEEN DAVID: LEAVE...)
THE EXTRAORDINARY INNER STRUGGLES OF A TEEN DAVID: LEAVES FROM THE JOURNAL OF A SOUL is an account, through journals, letters, art, fiction and poetry of a seeker who died young. This is a most unusual book: a compilation of discrete parts that together form a coherent picture. David Schwimmer's writings are vivid, passionate, and highly metaphysical. Most young people go through a period of ‘searching for themselves,’ yet David's journey started very early and progressed much farther than most. (Though his teenage angst never left him, he also transcended it impressively.) The photographs and images seem well chosen and definitely enhance the reading experience. This is a book that should appeal to other seekers, especially young people, many of whom will see themselves in David, and who will be able to take some comfort in his insights. This is a remarkable document of a remarkable life. Judge’s comments (November, 2012), 20th Annual Writer’s Digest Annual Self-Published Book Awards – I was very touched.... A profound work.... Ram Dass, Author, Grist for the Mill – This book is very powerful and very important. Bonnie R. Crown, Literary Agent – David's life is a hologram for what existence is all about. I like David enormously! The life of one sensitive human being magnifies life for all of us, much like the Diary of Anne Frank did. Jean K. Sowers, Editor – I feel confident this book will be successful. Gina Cerminara, Author, Many Mansions GOD, GIVE ME THE STRENGTH TO WRITE. IT IS POWERFUL. IT IS TRUE. SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE, WILL LISTEN. I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness. I followed a path that always seemed clear, but that in reality was unseen. The path led me here . . . and now I must stay. Remain until my judgment. My body can travel on, and I can still laugh, but I cannot clear the dust from my feet. I may regret, but cannot repay in this life. If I still live, someday I will try. All that I now can do is write, write in agony for all who travel this way. They will not heed, but at least will know where they are when they reach these flat lands. You see, there are no more hills to hide behind. I have flattened them all. Danny is dead--who is speaking? Danny’s spirit. The mind must ‘die’ before the spirit can live. * About a boy, written by himself and seen in the writing. * So wrote eighteen-year-old David Schwimmer in the months before he was lost at sea. And all during his teen years David also brilliantly recorded—in his journals, poems, and stories—his agonizing struggles with his soul over his psychological and sexual dilemmas. Through his journals, we also see David strive to become a writer, a long distance runner, an outdoorsman, and a friend. We are with him as he begins to experience his sexuality, and we watch his spirituality flower beside it. We observe him wrestling with personal relationships in high school and college, see his efforts to question and direct his body, mind, and spirit, carefully nurturing his own conception of himself, while trying to deal with his inner conflicts. We watch him work at practicing unconditional love. This record of David’s inner life has been compiled and edited by David’s father. It is a ritual journey through the mind and soul of David, in which David tries to search out who he is and why he is on Earth. This is the fundamental search that all human beings undertake during their life: to discover who they really are. Everyone who has read David’s writing describes it as deeply moving, touching all who experience it. Religion & Spirituality

(WANT TO UNDERSTAND AND ENJOY THE STORY OF HAMLET WITHOUT ...)
WANT TO UNDERSTAND AND ENJOY THE STORY OF HAMLET WITHOUT HAVING TO LOOK UP EVERY TENTH WORD? How about listening to the play in an audience with the same ease of comprehension as with any modern American play? NOW YOU CAN! And you can experience the play in an absolutely unique modern format. HAMLET DEAD is a modern reframing of Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. It was created for two basic reasons. First, many of Shakespeare’s words have simply become meaningless to the average American, some words have changed meanings, and the entire Elizabethan syntax is foreign to most Americans. Highly educated persons have difficulty understanding much of what they hear from a Shakespearean stage. Further, uncut printed versions of the play can take as much as four hours to perform on stage—consequently, all directors routinely cut large segments of the script. Therefore, not only has Hamlet’s language been reframed, but the total word count has been cut by a third. Second, the American theatre has seen little invention in dramatic form for the stage in many years, with the resultant stagnation in the production of innovative new scripts. So, this play is an experiment both in text clarification and dramatic form. The play starts in the moments after Hamlet’s death, and is based on the concept of a ‘life review’ that persons experiencing near-death experiences have reported. As this life review is in Hamlet’s mind, he views it as he sees fit, which is not always in chronological order. Since Hamlet is dead, time has disintegrated for him. His mind seizes fragments of his life, rearranges them, searches for their meaning. Time continually folds forwards and backwards onto itself. Scenes explode, implode, penetrate one another, collapse onto each other, in kaleidoscopic patterns of images and action. A word leads to part of an event six months in the future, a line to happenings of the previous night. Characters appear and fade away, are seen through each other, through another moment in time. Fragments of the ‘past’ and ‘future’ intrude into the ‘present', tying together what in life had at times been hidden or unclear to Hamlet. Although he is just an observer at times, he also is drawn back into and re-experiences the most critical moments of his life. Bottom line, this is an experiment in clarification and form, intended for performance by American actors on American stages for American audiences, so that they can clearly understand every word spoken and also can have a non-linear stage experience. Ultimately, this script is destined for performance before live audiences. The script has been in development over a period of forty years, so a considerable amount of thought has been devoted to every word, every sentence, every speech, every scene, as well as the arrangements of words, lines and scenes. The 2,500 word Introduction expands on this entire process and hopefully makes clear the writer’s intent.
