White, George Edward was born on October 14, 1861 in Murash, Turkey. Son of George Hills and Joanna (Fisher) White.

Came to America in 1863. Bachelor of Arts (“cyclone class”), Iowa College, 1882 (Phi Beta Kappa), A.M., 1887, Doctor of Divinity, 1906. Hartford Theological Seminary, 1885-1886.

Career

Teacher Latin and history, Hastings College, Nebraska, 1882-1884. Ordained Congressional ministry, 1887. Pastor Waverly, Iowa, 1887-1890.

Missionary American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions at Merzifun, Turkey. Member of faculty Anatolia College and Merzifun Theological Seminary, 1890-1921. Dean, Anatolia College, 1905-1913, president, 1913-1933 (college, relocated at Saloniki, 1923), president emeritus and field representative of the college in America.

Director Near East Relief, at Minneapolis, 1917-1919, Merzifun, Turkey, 1919-1921, Minneapolis, 1921-1923. Samuel Ives Curtiss’ fellow comparative religion, Chicago Theological Seminary, 1909-1910.
