Education

Bachelor of Arts, Illinois State University, 1861, Master of Arts, 1866. Enlisted as private in 2d Illinois Light Artillery, 1861. Mustered out 1866 as lieutenant colonel 6th United States.C. Artillery.

Career

Augustus South. and Maria Vogdes, October 10, 1876. Admitted to bar at Hannibal, Missouri, 1867. Circuit attorney, old 15th Circuit, 1868-1871.

Removed to Saint Louis, 1871, to Colorado, 1874.

Practiced at Boulder, Colorado, until 1877, when returned to Saint Louis. Judge Saint Louis Court of Appeals, since 1908(later presiding judge).

United State Attorneys for Eastern District of Missouri, 1889-1893. Author of amendment to the United States Statutes under which the Louisiana Lottery was excluded from use of the mails, and of that part of the section of the United States laws which excluded from naturalization persons believing in or practicing polygamy.
