Originated and conducted Poor Children’s Picnics and Fresh Air Fund. Managing editor New York Herald, 1875-1876. Conducted the newsdealer war in 1883-1884 when James Gordon Bennett fought for and compelled sale of the Herald at reduced price.
Later connected with New York World, Advertiser, Recorder, and Journal.
