After graduation head, Trebizond (front-line), then T’iflis central Laboratory, League of Cities. 1918-1921 and 1925-1927 worked at Pasteur Institute. Paris; from 1927 head, Chair of Hygiene, from 1929 head
Chair of Microbiology, Tbilisi University. One of the originators and major researchers of microbiology in Georgia 1923 co-founder, Tbilisi Bacteriological Institute.
Won renown for his research on bactcriophagy. Directed the development of industry bacteriophage production and the use of bacteriophages in Geo medical practice. Company-founder and director
All-Union Institute of Bactcriophagology, Tbilisi. Supported hypothesis that bacteriophages arc living viruses. Along with d’Hcrclle established the presence of lysine in bacteriophage cultures independent of the bacteriophage corpuscles.
Along with East. Pozerskiy observed the specific effect of quinine compounds on bacteriophages. One of first to study the significance of bacleri ophages as a factor determining bacterial mutability. Obtained first bacteriophage against gas gangrene, which was used with success in Soviet army.
Wrote numerous works on microbiology and bactcriophagology. 1937 accused of deliberativcly infecting children in Signakh Rayon, Geo Soviet Socialist Republic and executed along with his wife.
