His cerebral approach is supported by DS Jane Penhaligon, who also happens to be Fitz's love interest, and clashes with the old-style aggressive policing of DS Jimmy Beck.

Marking the hundredth anniversary of the world's most famous maritime disaster, TITANIC is an epic, four-part miniseries event from Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy-winning writer Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park, Downton Abbey).
Geraldine Margaret Agnew-Somerville is an Irish born British actress known for her role as Detective Sergeant Jane Penhaligon in Cracker, for which she was nominated for the 1995 British Academy Television Award for Best Actress, and for playing Lily Potter in the Harry Potter film series.
Background
Somerville was born on March 19, 1967, in County Meath, Ireland to the family of Sir Quentin Charles Agnew-Somerville, 2nd Baronet, and Margaret April Irene Drummond, an antiques dealer, but was brought up on the Isle of Man. Margaret April Irene Drummond is a daughter of John Drummond, 15th Baron Strange, and sister of Cherry Drummond, 16th Baroness Strange.
Geraldine Somerville has an elder sister, Amelia Rachel (who owns and works in a restaurant with her husband in the Australian rainforest), and a younger brother, James Lockett Charles Agnew-Somerville, who worked in Hong Kong and writes poetry.
Education
Geraldine went to dancing classes from the age of 6 and, at the age of 8, she attended the Arts Educational School in Tring, Hertfordshire. There she was taught ballet, music, and drama. At sixteen, she left to continue her studies in London, where she gained a place at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1989.
Geraldine's acting career began in 1989, immediately after graduating from the Guildhall. She was cast as Laura opposite Linus Roache in "The Glass Menagerie", at The Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester, for which she was nominated for a Best Actress award by the Manchester Evening News.
Somerville's first big break came in 1993 when she was cast opposite Robbie Coltrane in his detective series "Cracker." The abrasive crime drama proved popular, running for four seasons and earning Somerville a BAFTA nod for Best Actress. To many, this is the role for which she is best known.
However, 2001 proved to be a life-changing year for the actress. She co-starred alongside a number of highly celebrated British actors in Robert Altman's murder-mystery ensemble piece, "Gosford Park."
That year she also played Lily Potter in the wildly popular children's adventure "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." The former film earned Somerville accolades from a bevy of American film critics, and the latter made her famous amongst the under-17 set. She has reprised the role of Harry Potter's deceased mother in each of the successive films, balancing these magic-fueled movies with appearances on British television.
As the series drew to a close with the release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," Somerville returned to mature dramas with a role in the docudrama "My Week with Marilyn," an intimate look into the life of Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe.
Geraldine's numerous theatre credits include: "Three Birds Alighting on a Field," directed by Max Stafford-Clark, "A Jamaican Airman Foresees His Own Death," directed by Hettie Macdonald, and "The Treatment," directed by Lindsay Posner, all at The Royal Court, Juliet in "Romeo and Juliet," directed by Andy Hay at Bristol Old Vic, "I Am Yours," directed by Nancy Meckler for Shared Experience, "A Doll's House," "Birmingham Rep," 'Blue Remembered Hills," with Steve Coogan and Nigel Lindsay, directed by Patrick Marber, and "Power" with Robert Lindsay and Rupert Penry-Jones, directed by Lindsey Posner for The National Theatre. More recently, Geraldine appeared at the Donmar Warehouse in "Serenading Louis," 2010, opposite Jason O'Mara, directed by Simon Curtis.
Other notable television dramas include Performance: The Deep Blue Sea (1994) (1994), Aristocrats (1999), Performance: After Miss Julie (1995) (1995), Daylight Robbery (1999), Heaven on Earth (1998), The Safe House (2002), Daphne (2007), and The Children (2008).
Films include My Week with Marilyn (2011), director Simon Curtis, Sixty Six (2006), director Paul Weiland, Gosford Park (2001), director Robert Altman, and Jilting Joe (1998), director Dan Zeff.
Geraldine Margaret Agnew-Somerville is best known for her roles in the film Gosford Park (2001) and the Harry Potter film series (2001β2011). In 1995, Somerville was nominated for a BAFTA Award for playing Jane Penhaligon in the television series Cracker from 1993 to 1995.
