Studied at University College School. Studied art at South Kensington Schools, and Slade School of Art, the latter under Sir E. J. Poynter, President of the Royal Academy. Learnt art of wood-engraving in the studio of his father and uncles, the Brothers Dalziel.
Was an exhibitor of water colours at the Dudley Gallery and Crystal Palace at the age of 13.
Worked for his father’s paper Judy for many years, later on becoming proprietor and editor. Edited The Pictorial World, and part proprietor. Founded Ally Sloper’s Half-Holiday, 1884, and was its proprietor and editor until 1903.
Founder, proprietor, and editor of several other comic papers. Also editor and proprietor of many books, annuals, and Christmas numbers. Presented the Dalziel Collection of Wood-Engravings to the Central Library of the Borough of Hampstead, 1909.
Fellow of Institute of Joumalists.
