This fascinating book illustrates the importance of analyzing sexuality by examining ways in which stepping outside heterosexuality necessitates and facilitates long-term economic independence. Based on a life-history study, the book charts key stages in the lives of non-heterosexual women, including their experiences of gendering in childhood and their responses to 'the culture of romantic heterosexuality'. In 1987 Gillian Dune graduated from the Cambridge College of Arts and Technology (now Anglia Polytechnic University) with a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1988 she received a Post-Graduate Certificate of Education from the Girton College, Cambridge and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1992.
Career
Gillian Dunne was a lecturer in human geography at the Anglia Polytechnic University (now Anglia Ruskin University) in Cambridge, England from 1992 to 1995. From 1994 to 1998 she served as a senior research associate in social and political sciences at the Cambridge University. In 1998 Dunne was a research fellow at Gender Institute of the London School of Economics and Political Science at the University of London.
She is also a lecturer at institutions of higher learning, including University of Leeds, University of Glamorgan, University of York, University of Essex, and York University, Toronto, Ontario and a guest on television and radio programs.
