Lucy Bland is a British professor of Social and Cultural History, working at Anglia Ruskin University. She specializes in the late 19th and 20th-century British Gender History, the History of Race Relations and the History of Sexuality. Her new projects are an investigation of mixed race offspring of black GIs and British women, born in World War II, and a Social and Cultural History of transracial adoption in Britain since World War II.
Education
Initially, Lucy received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manchester, where she later got a Master of Arts degree in Social Anthropology. Then, she continued her education at the University of Birmingham, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Cultural History.
Career
In February 1989, Lucy began working as a senior lecturer in History and women's studies at London Metropolitan University, a post she held till February 2011. From March 2011 till February 2012, she served as a reader in History at the same university.
In December 2011, Bland was appointed a visiting senior research fellow at King's College London, a position she held until September 2013, when she was made a reader in History and research fellow in History at Anglia Ruskin University, the posts Lucy still continues to hold. Currently, she also serves as a Professor in Social and Cultural History at Anglia Ruskin University.
In addition, between 1997 and 2011, she was on the editorial collective of "Feminist Review". In 2008-2009, Bland acted as a Principal Investigator for a Leverhulme-funded project on "Identifying the Parameters of the Women's Liberation Movement, 1970's and 1980's".
Moreover, during her career, Bland has written widely on the history of sexuality, gender and feminism.

Lucy is a fellow of the Royal Historical Society, as well as a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
