He became the editor-in-chief of the Mat sue Nippo newspaper in Shimane Prefecture. Joined the Mitsui Bank and served as head of its various overseas branches and its Lumber Section. In 1911, at the recommendation of ICaoru Inoue, a statesman, he became managing director of the Oji Paper Manufacturing Co. and its president (1920). He absorbed the Fuji Paper Manufacturing Co. and the Karafuto (Saghalien) Industry Co. into his firm and made it the largest paper manufacturing company in the Far East. Was a director of various other firms concurrently. During the Pacific War, he was Minister of Munitions. A doyen in the Japanese paper manufacturing business.
