Walsberg was born on June 25, 1949 in Long Beach, California, United States; the son of Paul C. Walsberg and Doris Irene (Lund) Walsberg.
Walsberg received a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University in 1971. Four years later he earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of California.
Walsberg began his career as a postdoctoral fellow at Washington State University in 1976. Two years later he took a position of an assistant professor at School of Life Sciences of Arizona State University. Then in 1983, Glenn became an associate professor at the same university. Since 1989 he was a professor at School of Life Sciences of Arizona State University. Nowadays Walsberg is a professor emeritus at that university.
Walsberg is a member of American Ornithologists Union, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Society Conservation Biology, Cooper Ornithological Society and Sigma Xi.
On January 5, 1974 Glenn Walsberg married Kathleen Marie Bell. They have two children.
