In 770, he was one of the 1,000 persons initiated into priesthood at a ceremony held at the Imperial command.
Career
Presided over meetings in the Palace for religious discussions.Was made a Daisozu (a high rank in priesthood) in 826 and was accorded the title of So jo (bishop) posthumously. He was called Iwabuchi Sojo and was the master of Kukai.
