Career
Handed over his family estate to his younger brother and became a rice merchant in Edo and also taught fencing to his neighbors. Tozaemon Shimada, a direct retainer of the Shogun, was jealous of his prosperity and arrested him on a false charge. But later due to the efforts of Tasuke Isshin he was cleared of the charges and given a compensation of 1,200 koku while the false informant had his property confiscated.
