Fitch received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Psychology in 1977 from College of Arts and Sciences of Kansas State University. Five years later he earned his Master of Science degree in Neurophysiology from Kansas State University. In 1997, Gregory was given a Doctor of Philosophy degree from College of Veterinary Medicine of Kansas State University.
Fitch began his career as an instructor at Old Trooper University in 1983 and had held it for two years. In 1983, he took the same position at the biology division of Kansas State University, where he worked until 1994. In 1998, Gregory became an assistant professor of biology at Avila College. Nowadays he is a professor of biology at Avila University.
Fitch is a member of Sigma Xi.
On September 13, 1987 Gregory Fitch married Barbara Gayle Anderson.
