Gregory Fu received his Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1985, then completed his Doctor of Philosophy at Harvard University in 1991.

His research projects focus on developing new catalysts for many types of reactions. In particular, they use transition metals and various nucleophilic mechanisms for catalytic activity. He also works in preparative-scale chiral chromatography.
He was awarded an Arthur C. Cope for 1998-1999.
In 2014, he was elected as a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
