Grigoriy MUKHADZE, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Surgeon. Doctor of Medical from 1912; professor from 1919; Honorary Sciences Worker of Geo Soviet Socialist Republic from 1946. member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Medical Sciences and Geo Academy of Sciences from 1944.
Education
1908 graduate Medical Faculty, Tomsk University.
Career
After graduate intern, Minusinsk and Krasnoyarsk hospitals. From 1911 head, Surgical Department, Chiatura Trades Hospital. 1912 completed doctor’s thesis on the effect of reduced circulation on blood pressure at Victoria and Albert Oppel’s clinic.
From 1918 director, Traumatological Institute. Company-founder, Tbilisi University. 1919-1921 head, Chair of General Surgery, 1921-1948 head, Chair of Hospital Surgery, Tbilisi University.
1932 established blood transfusion unit which in 1935 became the Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, Geo Minister of Health. 1944-1948 founder-director, Institute of Experimental Surgery and Hematology, Geo Academy of Sciences. Pioneered modem surgical techniques in Geo Soviet Socialist Republic and trained many leading Geo surgeons.
Wrote 87 works, including ten monographs on surgery and blood transfusion. A hospital and street in Chiatura, the Tbilisis Surgical Social and the Tbilisi Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion bear his name.
