Grigory Gay Grigorievich was an actor of Russian State Academic Theaters and playwright.
Background
Grigoriy Grigorievich Gay was born on October 9, 1868, Kherson, Khersons'ka Oblast', Ukraine inHe was born in the family of the famous playwright Grigory Nikolaevich Gay. He spent his childhood with his mother in France and Switzerland during 1870-1877.
Education
Grigoriy Grigorievich graduated from the Richelieu Gymnasium, then came to Saint Petersburg, where, on the advice of the Russian artist Repin, entered the Korovyakov Theater School.
Career
After graduating from the Korovyakov Theater School (1888), Grigoriy Grigorievich served in the school theater, then played in many provincial troupes (Saratov, Astrakhan, Vilna, Voronezh, Kharkiv, etc.). In the season of 1896-1897, he was invited to the theater of the literary and artistic circle in Saint Petersburg, where his play Trilby (based on the novel of D. Dumaurier) was played. In 1897 Grigoriy Grigorievich made his debut at the Alexandrinsky Theater, playing there until 1929. After 1917, he continued to perform in the theater and taught acting at the Petrograd Proletkult.
