Background
Sandhu was born in Tarn Taran in Punjab, India. The eldest of three children, his father was a civil servant, and his mother died when he was young.

He attended Saint John"s High School in Chandigarh from 1971 to 1973, and then Sacred Heart Convent School in Ludhiana from 1973 – 1975 before passing his matriculation at A PEE JAY Public School in Jalandhar.
Career
Sandhu received his Bachelor of Science (Bachelor of Science) in Economics and Master of Business Administration (Master of Business Administration) from Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana. He was awarded a Rotary International Fellowship Scholarship in 1989 – 1990 and then secured a second Master of Business Administration with a specialization in International Business from Cardiff University in 1991. Sandhu is the Managing Director of Reva Pharmachem Private
He has served in management positions for various multinational corporations.
In his early years Gurpreet worked with the TATA Group & Global Traders. He then worked at Matrix (Mylan), followed by 8 years as a director of the global API business in Ranbaxy (Daiichi Sankyo).
