Taught at the Pedagogical Department of the Tallinn Conservatory, 1937-1941. During World War II, directed the Iaroslavl’ Ensemble and founded the Estonian Professional Choir Collective. After the war, Director of the Faculty of Choral Conducting at the Tallinn Conservatory.
In 1944, founder, chief conductor and artistic director of the male voice choir of the Tallinn Philharmony (now the State Male Voice Choir of the Estonian SSR). Wrote mainly operatic and choral music.
