Civil engineer railway location and construction, 1903-1910. Chief engineer trussed concrete steel, reinforced concrete design, 1911-1914. Commanded 2d Field Company, Canada Engineers, 1905, served in Belgium, France, with Canada Engineers 1st and 3d Canada Divisions, C.E.F., World War I.

Lieutenant Royal Canada Engineers, 1915, captain 1917, major and brevet colonel, 1918, colonel and temporary brigadier, 1934, major general, 1938. Quartermaster general, 1938-1940, adjt. general, April-July 1940, commandant, Royal Military College of Canada, 1940-1944. Retired September 1944.
