Hamaomi Shimizu practiced medicine near Shinobazu Pond in Ueno, Edo. He was patronized by Sadanobu Matsudaira, the Shogunate minister, and frequently was guest of other daimyo. Being a friend of Ekisai Kariya, scholar, he cooperated with Ekisai in collating texts of classics.
Wrote commentaries on the Genji Monogatari (Tale of Genji) and other classics.
