Seiken Terakado was born in 1796. He was rendered an orphan while still a child.
He studied Chinese poetry under Ryokuin Yamamoto.
He came to live in Edo (1818) where he soon won recognition both as a scholar and an essayist. Among his works are Edo Hanjoki (Prosperity of Edo), Niigata Hanjoki and "Essay of Seiken."
