Harold B. Gill was born on January 16, 1933, in Orange, Virginia, to Harold B., Sr. and Katherine Jayne Gill.

Education

Gill attended College of William and Mary, where, in 1955, he got his Bachelor of Arts, and, in 1959, Master of Arts degree.

Career

From 1961 to 1991, Harold worked as a historian at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, in Williamsburg, Virginia. Currently, Gill Edits the journal of Nicholas Cresswell and makes his research on artisans in colonial Virginia.

Achievements

• Harold B. Gill is known as the contributor of about forty articles to history journals, including Colonial Williamsburg Journal, Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, Journal of Historical Armsmaking Technology, Colonial Williamsburg Interpreter, Antiques Monthly and Agricultural History.
  
  In 1999, he got the John Lyman Book Award from the North American Society for Oceanic History, for his work Searching for the Franklin Expedition.
