Carl Wilcox is taking care of the Corden Hotel while his folks recover from an accident. A woman out of his past comes looking for a treasure from someone else's past, and Carl can't stay out of the mix. #2 in the Carl Wilcox series, this one basically continues the trend begun in the first one. Carl is a ex-con who is running his parent's hotel while they recover from a car accident. An old flame shows up, which leads Carl reluctantly into a plot that includes missing ransom money and murder. Carl is a likable protagonist, and it's really his voice and personality that makes these novels so fun to read. They're set in small town South Dakota during the depression, and the author makes them feel authentic.
