(Here is a fresh and unconventional introduction to the hi...)
Here is a fresh and unconventional introduction to the history of Latin American international relations, from colonial times to the present. Previous works of this scope have been written with an emphasis on the Latin American policy of the United States or other "outside" nations. In this volume, the authors offer a pioneering study from a perspective that has been ignored in English-language books--that of the Latin American nations themselves. Includes an extensive bibliography, with listings by both country and century.

From the back cover: "Burke Aaron Hinsdale lived a six-fold life. He was an intellectual leaderof the Disciples of Christ, president of Hiram College, confidant and biographer of James A. Garfield, pioneer historian of the United States West, superintendent of the Cleveland public schools, and professor of education at the University of Michigan. In each role this protean Hinsdale left a record that is still vital, both in deed and in the written word. "Homespun, handwrought, largely self-taught, he did not graduate from a degree granting college. Yet he became president of Hiram College, game it high academic standards, and went on to become a national leader in education. "For his friend and teacher, Garfield, he wrote the presidential campaign biography, edited the Garfield papers, and wrote the notable President Garfield and Education as a Hiram memorial. "His published correspondence with Garfield is one of the all too little recognized humane classics of our national life."
