Haruko Okumura was born in Tokyo in 1886.

Graduated from the Nihon Women's College.

Career

Wrote books on women's problems.

Achievements

She established together with her friends the Seitosha (Blue Stocking) Society, a women's association, for the purpose of emancipation of women.

In 1919, she founded the Shin Fujin Kyokai (New Women’s Association) and took a leading part in the woman suffrage and sex equality movement.
