Career
Harunori Tokugawa succeeded his father as lord of the clan in 1805. He presented to the Imperial Court 26 volumes of Dai-Nipponshi (History of Great Japan) and was commended by the Emperor.
Personality
Harunori Tokugawa was always calm and composed and tender to his retainers but he nonetheless was looked upon with awe by the people. He liked martial arts and was himself an expert. He valued practical science and loathed extravagance.
