Although he was a merchant in Osaka, he was called to Edo and appointed as a Shogunate astronomer (1795) when the calendar was changed, because of his distinguished knowledge of astronomy and calendar. His name is merchant was Juichiya-Gorobe and his pseudonym Koun.
