Heikichi Umeya was born in Kofu, Yamanashi, Japan.
Heikichi Umeya became a disciple of Heikichi Umeya II while the latter was staying temporarily at Kofu. Later he moved to Tokyo and became a flute player for an orchestra (1897). He was given the title of Heikichi Umeya III (1905).
Umeya died of illness shortly after the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923.
