Hekigoto Kawahigashi joined the editorial staff of Nihon Shimbim (1897) where he met Shiki Masaoka and began taking interest in haiku poetry. Resigned two years later to make an extensive tour of Japan composing poetry. After rambling for three years settled down and began publication of a poetry magazine Kaiko (1913). Left for a tour of Europe and America (1920) and upon return (1923) published another magazine known as Hekit followed by yet another called Sammai.
