Brunner earned an MFA in Photographic Studies (1977) from VSW (of SUNY, Buffalo), Rochester, New York.
Since 1975 she has been coordinator of the VSW Research Center. She won a Collaborations in Art, Science, and Technology Fellowship in 1978.
Her primary curatorial field was visual books and photo-printmaking, and her own work was concerned with "visual reinterpretation of early language systems." Although photographic, the pictures were manipulated.
Brunner belongs to SPE, American Printing History Association, Center for Book Arts and American Association of Museums.
