Helen Ketteman was born on July 1, 1945, in Augusta, Georgia, United States. She is a daughter of Jack and Mary Helen (Walker) Moon.
Helen Ketteman studied at Young Harris College where she received an Associate of Arts degree in 1965. She also attended Georgia Southern University from 1965 to 1966. Ketteman studied at Georgia State University and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1968.
Helen Ketteman started her career as a writer in 1992 when she published her first book Not Yet, Yvette. She wrote fifteen illustrated books for children and also was a contributor to periodicals, including Spider and Highlights for Children. Ketteman has taught at the high school and elementary levels, and has also taught continuing education classes in writing picture books at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She made speeches at conferences on writing picture books, and also appeared at young author conferences and on radio and television talk shows.
Helen Ketteman is an American writer who is famous for her children's books such as At the Old Haunted House and Bubba, The Cowboy Prince. She received the Patricia Gallagher Award and Nebraska Golden Sower Award in 2001. In 2003, she received the North Dakota Flicker Tale Award. Her books were among best books of the year in 1993 and in 1995.
