Henmi was born in 1891, in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan.
Was sent to India as student of Soto Sect of Buddhism and studied Buddhist Arts and other subjects for three years there. Received degree (1934). Afterwards made frequent visits to Manchuria and Mongolia and North China for study and investigation.
Teaches as professor at Tama Fine Arts College and Komazawa University. Devoted student of Buddhist arts, he has written such books as ^Monograph on Fine Arts of Indian Buddhism—On Architec- ture”; “Materials and Exposition of Fine Arts of Ancient India” ; “Studies on Forms ol Idols in 丄れ也.
