Career
After living for some years in England, he arrived in Sydney, New South Wales, in 1822. In 1827 he became a clerk in the Survey Department, and later became chief clerk of the same department. He was rumoured to have helped Henry Kendall find a job with the department and was generally known for helping young writers.
He began publishing his own poetry in various newspapers and periodicals in the 1840s and published four collections of his work during his lifetime.
Halloran retired in 1878 and was made Companion of St. Michael and St. George He died at his home, Mowbray, in Ashfield, New South Wales on 19 May 1893.
