Henry Liddell

Background

Liddell, Henry was born on December 3, 1843 in at Northumberland, England. Son of Henry George and Barbara W. (Greetham) Liddell.

Education

Educated Burdis Private Academy, King Edward VI. Grammar School, Newcastle-on-Tyne, England. Came to America, 1862. Served in Nova Scotia militia, with rank of captain, 1863-1864.

Attached to the United States Sanitary Commission, 1864-1865.

Doctor of Medicine National University, 1891 (Doctor of Philosophy).

Career

Traveled extensively in Asia and Australia, 1865-1882. In service of Japanese and Chinese goverments, 1873-1879. Attache foreign military contingent, Shanghai, China, 1879-1880.

Employed in the United States War Department, 1889-1893.

Has made several visits to extreme north of America Continent, Labrador and the waters of Hudson’s Bay.
