He was first employed under Architect Ammi B. Young of Boston on the old Federal Building in Rutland, Vermont, and a few years later planned and built the Congregational Church in that city.
In 1844 Mr. Searle moved to Rochester, and during the twenty-five years he practiced designed the Third and Central Presbyterian churches, the city Savings Bank, Hospital, and other buildings. After 1868 he worked in the office of the U. S. Supervising Architect in Washington, D. C., connected with the plan and/or erection of a number of Government buildings, one of which was the Court House at Canandaigua, N.Y.
