Served in India during the Mutiny (medal). Also in the Mahsud - Waziri Expedition, 1860 (medal and clasp). And the second Yusufzai Expedition as Aide-de-camp to Sir Neville Chamberlain and Sir John Garvock (clasp).
Secretary and Member, Board of Examiners, Fort-William, Calcutta.
And AssistantSecretary, Legislative Department, Government, of India, 1870-1894. Decorated for general services. Colonel on the Supernumerary List.
