Background
BLAKISTON, Herbert Edward Douglas was born on September 5, 1862 in St. Leonards. E. and the only surviving son of Reverend Douglas Yeoman Blakiston, Master of Arts, formerly Vicar of East Grinstead, (grandson of Sir Matthew Blakiston, 2nd Baronet), and Sophia, daughter of Reverend William Dent, Master of Arts, of Crosby Cote, Yorkshire.
Education
Studied at Tonbridge School. Trinity College (Scholar, 1881-1885). Master of Arts; Doctor of Divinity.
Career
1st class in Class. Honourable Moderations (Oxford), 1882. 1st class in Classics, 1885. Classical Honour Moderator, 1895-1897 and 1905-1906.
Junior Proctor, 1899-1900. University Auditor,1903-1910. President, 1907, having been Fellow since 1887, Senior Tutor, and Junior Bursar, of Trinity College, Oxford.
