In 1954 Hermine studied at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, Arkansas, United States. She became a Bachelor of Arts. In two years she received a degree of the Master of Arts. in 1964 Hermine was a student of the Columbia University in New York City, United States. She became a Doctor of Philosophy.
In 1948 Hermine worked as an organist, choral director in various churches in New York, United States. In 1954 Hermine worked as an independent accompanist. In this year she became an instructor at the Musicology Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, United States. She worked there for five years. From 1964 to 1965 she was an assistant professor at Hamilton College in Clinton, North Carolina, United States.
In 1972 she worked as an ethnomusicology and religion lecturer at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, United States. She held this position until 1993. From 1980 to 1987 Hermine she worked as an assistant to the general editor of Operas A. Scarlatti at Harvard University Press in Сambridge, Massachusetts, United States. Since 1993 she worked as a scholar-in-residence at the Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, United States.
