Hidaka was born in 1917, in Nagasaki, Japan.
Joined staff of Kindai Bungaku (Modern Literature) and engaged in wide variety of activities, ultimately becoming assistant professor of Newspaper Research Institute of Tokyo University (1950). Published translation works including these of “Escape from Freedom” by Ericn Krom and Tale of History of Man by Van Loon. Also active in social criticism. Elder brother of Hachiro Hidaka, scholar of English literature.
