Levon Chorbajian was born on August, 1942 in East Orange, New Jersey, United States. Son of Vahinag and Antoinette (Chadarevian) Chorbajian.
Chorbajian graduated from Temple University with a B.A. in 1964. In 1965 he received a M.A. from the University of Michigan. In 1974 he gained a Ph.D. from Brandeis University.
Chorbajian was a volunteer at U.S. Peace Corps, Washington between 1966 and 1968. Since 1970 he has been a professor of sociology at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. He was a managing editor at the Journal of Sport and Social Issues and ARENA Review, both between 1982 and 1986. He was a senior Fulbright lecturer in the U.S.S.R. in 1986-1987, and in the Republic of Armenia in 1996.
Chorbajian has served on the UMass Lowell Faculty Union and has been the campus labor representative in Commonwealth Health and Welfare Trust. He continues to serve on the editorial board of the Armenian Review and he assists as a manuscript reviewer for Humanity and Society. Within the Sociology Department, he acts as the Continuing Education liaison and coordinates all continuing education classes for the Department.
Chorbajian received Outstanding Teaching Award for Teaching - Department of Sociology, University of Massachusetts Lowell. He won Who's Who among America's Teachers: The Best Teachers in America Selected by the Best Students for Teaching - Educational Communications Inc. He also won Armenian Behavioral Sciences Association Distinguished Service Award in 1987 from Armenian Behavioral Sciences Association. In 1995 he was recognized by Who's Who Among Armenians in North America - Millennia Publishers. In 2011 he won Armenian Revolutionary Federation's Freedom Award for Distinguished Service to Human Rights from St. Vartanatz Armenian Apostolic Church, Chelmsford, Massachusetts.
Levon is an adherent to the Armenian Apostolic Church.
Chorbajian is involved in socialist and progressive politics and is a critic of neoliberalism.
Levon Chorbajian married Beverly Byrnes in 1978. The couple have 4 children: Ruby, Garo, Seta, Von.
