Hideo Ueda graduated from Tokyo University in 1920.
Hideo Ueda was appointed professor at Fifth Higher School in Kumamoto in 1921. Then he worked as a professor at the Department of Law and Literature of Kumamoto University. Hideo Ueda was engaged in a historical study of waka poetry, especially the Manyoshu, Anthology. His books include Minamoto-no-Sanetomo and "Lecture On Written Japanese of the Modern Period".
