Bailey sometimes writes with author, Emma Tennant, under the pseudonym, Isabel Vane. She has also used the pseudonym, Pippin Graham. Bailey edited volumes 7-10 of the New Worlds Quarterly series.
Her writings are varied, including a biography of Vera Brittain, a sequel to Jane Eyre, and genre fiction.
Bailey has also written a sequel to The Turn of the Screw, called Miles and Flora, which takes place some time after the original novel and resurrects one of the main characters. Along with Tennant, she has written books satirizing present-day royal life.
She is the former wife of Michael Moorcock.
